Depends?

If I have to fill a slot, probably aptitude. If I had to go with somebody long-term, attitude.

They don't usually go in those archetypes though.

Both are very important to me.

For someone I just need to fill a slot, aptitude is more important because I want to get something done. Over a longer period, attitude is major because they can improve on their lack of aptitude.

The place the team is going through also matters - in GvG, I won't be able to play with someone that has one of the two lacking unless they are making a noticeable effort to solve the problem.

Hands down in PvE, attitude is more important. I’d much rather play with some less experienced players who are playing to have fun than a bunch of l33t wanna-be’s who each thinks they’re smarter than the other. Of course, ultimately, the best thing would be to play with skilled players with a great attitude….Maybe that’s why I H/H mostly these days. :/

Then again.... most areas of Normal Mode PvE are easy enough that a good player and three well synergised heroes can easily compensate for the shortfalls of a few inexperienced newbs.

Now I think about it.... it has been a while since I helped anyone out with Nahpui Quarter.

PvE, attitude, it is about the fun and most things are so easy, people don't have to be good.

PvP, altitude, I play pvp to win and then have fun, not to lose every battle in a funny way, because that starts getting annoying real soon.

Yea, but it's still more fun to play with people when you can find people who are reasonably mature and interested in learning, and just want to have fun.

I remember one particular time when I had a group of guildies with me and we completely missed a wandering patrol that had two groups stuck together in it. We wound up being overrun by more than 20 high level mobs, but, ultimately, we didn't wipe because of some creative use of kiting and terrain. Everybody was pretty stoked about it. Heroes and henches just don't get excited when you pull off those "against all odds" comebacks or find that uber-rare drop.

I just don't understand why anybody would play a video game to win? That seems to me to be completely absurd and futile. Some day the servers will go dark and all of your faction, your rank, and your spiffy items will be gone forever. What point is there in playing to obtain them rather than just playing to have a good laugh with pleasant people? Your memories of amusing interactions with them could last decades. Your gains from actually winning while playing with them will be gone forever within years.

Seems irrational to me.

GW is extremely (impossible for most?) hard to get money, but some games you can. CS is pretty easy to make money from for example.

Servers should not go dark, there is no mention of that when buying. I'd sue them after 28 days.

I don't see the point of playing just to lose, just like you don't go for a cap signet, to die 100 times as you get to the boss.

Attitude not Aptitude.

If a person expresses politeness, a good attitude, decency and niceness, and willingness to learn, they are WAY more welcome in my party, guild, alliance and friendlist.

I dont care if you suck, if im having fun with you, it doesnt matter.

Why would anyone play any game not to win? If you're not trying to win, by whatever you define winning as, then you're wasting your time.

None of that matters to competitive players, because numbers in game mean nothing. You play to win because of the fact that winning and doing well is fun, and in some cases, for the real-life prizes.

Life IS a waste of time no matter how you look at it.

I play Guild Wars for the experience; not for the outcome. What keeps me playing is that I am still doing things and still have things to do. In just about any game... the moment I "win" is the moment I start to lose interest in the game, which isn't the point at all. That is why, more often than not, I will do anything to avoid continuing the main storyline in any game (take Morrowind, for instance, where I was leader of over half the factions in the game before I even started the main storyline for the first time).

i'd form pick a newbie then a stuck up exp. player

as they'd always have "A Better" way around things, were as a newbie would try to learn more form it and would get more out of it,

+ i'd be able ot carry him through the mission with no probs...unless he likes to leroy

Bottom line: I play to have fun and escape from real life.

To me winning is fun. Winning alongside a bunch of A-holes however is not fun.

Last night I was trying out the costume brawl. Each time we seemed to have 1-2 leechers or non-loaders. We lost every time. This isn't fun so I quit playing and did something else.

I came back later and made it onto a winning team. I was playing as Cynn. Now I like Cynn's bar ok, but I hate the order of the skills. My ele always has Fire Attunement first, liquid flame 2nd, the elite 3rd, etc. So as soon as I loaded up I pulled up the "K" menu and quickly re-arrange the bar. I have time to do this before the battle starts if I hurry and usually about 5-10 seconds left over. However, the team I was with was full of elite jerks. As soon as the map loaded they run over to the warp circle or gate and wait there. I'm back on the spawn point re-arranging skills. They are furiously pinging the warp circle and cussing me out for not joining them IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!! (You would think that after 2 or 3 battles they'd get the hint that I am coming before the battle starts), but nope, not these guys. I even tried explaining that I was sorting the bar first, but that only got me cussed out more. ("Stupid noob, you can't change skills!! Idiiot!!")

While this was a winning team, it also was not "fun". I left them after 5 wins.

What is "well"?

Have you ever heard this distinction between man and woman? Women will focus on the journey, while men will focus on the destination - attitude and aptitude in its most obvious example.

Attitude can always be used to work on aptitude... if you claim aptitude is higher, you could be a great player of the game... just keep local chat off.

I don't like completing a mission or match with disparity running the entire duration. Come with good intentions, and lets have a good time.

And yet competitive people who lose may lack the attitude to move on from it, and 'waste time' wondering why things went wrong. Anyone who plays the game and ignores the importance of a good attitude towards things will never accept loss, and that's bad for all people that they involve themselves with. People who don't play to win will play for the experience. Unlike so many people who take the game for granted and use it to escape the troubles of the world - I don't, and I'm just happy to be able to play this game in the first place. Social interaction is in many ways, better than competitiveness. Attitude makes all the difference.

They both have there kicks, but I like attitude better.
